The Pharisee and The Tax-Collector

Scripture: And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Luke 18:9

Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a humble tax-collector.  The Pharisee stood proudly and prayed thus: God, I thank you that I am not as other men are, unfair, unjust, wicked, or even simple like this tax-collector.  I fast twice a week, and I give to the temple a tenth of all I possess.  The tax-collector, standing some distance away, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me a sinner.
And I tell you (said Jesus) this man prayed the good prayer, rather than the Pharisee.  For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled. And he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

Point to Ponder: Humility leads to exaltation. When we are fully aware of our own unworthiness in the sight of God and ask for mercy, God forgives our sins and saves us through his Son.

Prayer: Dear Lord, show us the hidden places inside of us where we need your mercies every morning, so we can live better days for You.
