Fast From Sound
John 12:28-30
After Jesus reaffirmed His resolve that the hour must come, He talked continually with the Father as when on the cross. Imagine hearing God’s voice speak to Jesus. The Seven Last Words on the Cross tells us what the voice of God said and they reveal what was in Jesus’ heart. What about us? What we think of God reveals our deepest longings and heartaches. Are we positioned to hear God’s voice? Will we obey?
Reflection: Recall a time when you heard God’s voice. What area of your life was God comforting, guiding, or convicting? If you have not heard God’s voice, pray and ask God to remove the something that is blocking the way.
Fast: Fast from sound for an hour. Notice your response. Are you restful or restless without the fillers? Is your mind more or less distracted? Is the aloneness comforting or unsettling? Ask God to reveal to you the power this world’s sounds have in your life. Ask Him to reveal the power His sounds have over your soul.
